Il problema principale di quando si ha una modifica di qualunque tipo alla propria console, e magari si vuole formattare per fare “pulizia”, è assicurarsi che tutti i dati e tutti i giochi di cui siamo in possesso possano poi ripartire senza problemi.
E’ il caso dei DLC (tutti i contenuti scaricati dal Playstation Store), che richiedono una conessione forzata al PSN per riattivarsi, in caso di mancata licenza valida.
In aiuto ci viene xReg Plus 1.0, prima versione di un tool che si occupa di sostituire il nostro “act.dat” (file che contiene le licenze) e il file “xRegistry.sys” (file che contiene il registro di sistema) con un altro presente sulla nostra penna USB.Questa sostituzione è temporanea, e si annullerà al riavvio della console.
E’ chiaramente necessario avere un file “act.dat” valido per i giochi che vogliamo riattivare, e per averlo possiamo usare il tool stesso, che si occupa di effettuare anche un backup, oltre al restore del file.
L’autore del tool, Cyberskunk (famoso developer del progetto Rebug) avverte pero’ che questa prima versione è limitata al backup e al restore sul primo account della console -/home/00000001/- … Sicuramente vedremo sviluppi migliori nelle prossime release!
E’ chiaro che questo tool, oltre a permettere il restore dei file “legali” permette anche il restore di licenze non proprie, e per questo si potrebbe arrivare ad una nuova frontiera dell’hacking DLC su PS3: Alla fine si tratta di rilasciare il file “act.dat” insieme al PKG completo del gioco o dell’addon, questo aprirebbe una nuova via agli hacker che da sempre cercano modi alternativi ai download da Playstation Store! Voi che ne pensate?
Sony come reagirà? Ormai la mossa è stata fatta!

xReg Plus is a simple app that will allow you to backup and restore your xRegistry.sys file to/from USB. Good for instantly restoring your settings and access to your save data again after a Service Mode install.
1: Press SELECT to BACKUP xRegistry.sys to root of USB000
2: Press START to RESTORE xRegistry.sys from root of USB000
Also includes Activation Reviver.
You must have a backup of your act.dat file and the exdata folder must already exist in dev_hdd0/home/00000001/ (Currently that is the only address it copies to).
How it works..
1: Place act.dat onto root of USB stick and place in USB000 (slot furthest right)
2: Press CIRCLE to TRANSFER act.dat to xReg Plus (XREG00001/USRDIR) from USB
3: Press CROSS to RESTORE act.dat to PS3 exdata directory
Once this is done you only have to use step 3 each time you reboot and want to play DLC.
